Board Orientation Manual 2024
Vacation Vacation time is encouraged as an opportunity for staff members to rest and relax. Regular full-time staff members are provided with the following vacation in a calendar year, based on length of service: Coordinator Staff: 1 - 5 years of complete service 15 days entitlement 6 - 9 years of complete service 20 days entitlement 10 - 14 years of complete service 25 days entitlement 15 -19 years of complete service 28 days entitlement 20+ years of complete service 30 days entitlement Managers: 1-9 years of complete service 20 days entitlement 10 - 14 years of complete service 25 days entitlement 15-19 years of complete service 28 days entitlement 20+ years of complete service 30 days entitlement Part-time staff members’ vacation is pro-rated based on hours worked. Temporary and casual staff members’ vacation is paid out as it is earned, at 4% of paid wages on every pay cheque. Increases to this percentage will be made in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act. Vacation entitlements are based on the calendar year, commencing January 1 and ending December 31. The BC Games Society encourages staff members to take vacation in the calendar year that it is accrued. Staff members may choose to carry over unused vacation (i.e.: coordinators – three (3) days; managers – five (5) days). Vacation entitlements are pro-rated for partial years worked and rounded up to the half day (i.e. during the first and last year of employment). Vacation is to be scheduled as far in advance as possible, with requests submitted to the President and CEO by email. All approvals for vacation are considered on a case-by-case basis, weighed against operating requirements, workload management, and whether other staff members are away at the same time. Holiday Closure The BC Games Society may close over the December/New Year’s holiday break on any given year at the discretion of the President and CEO. The President and CEO will advise staff members of the closure dates at the beginning of each year. Paid time off provided during the holiday closure will be provided to each staff member as the BC Games Society’s gift to staff. This entitlement is subject to change at the BC Games Society’s discretion.
