• Birth parents who are expecting a baby are entitled to a maternity leave of up to 17 consecutive weeks. When combined with parental leave, the time off work can add up to 78 consecutive weeks. • Parents welcoming a new baby or adopting a child are entitled to parental leave of up to 63 consecutive weeks. • If a staff member resigns prior to, or within, six (6) months of returning from their leave, 50% of the top-up benefit will be repaid on a pro-rated basis. • Staff members must be employed with the BC Games Society for 36 months (which is the same as the RRSP vesting wait period) prior to Pregnancy and/or Parental Leave in order to be eligible for the top-up plan listed below. Staff members with less than 36 months of service are eligible for pregnancy, parental, and adoption leave entitlements as set out in the BC Employment Standards Act , without the top-up to their wages. 16 weeks EI top up to 85% of basic pay. 1 week at 85% of basic pay. 35 weeks EI top up to 85% of basic pay. Extended = the equivalent of 35 weeks EI top-up to 85% of basic pay, divided over 61 weeks.

Parental Leave

If father, at least 4 weeks prior to date of leave. Leave must be completed by child’s first birthday. If mother, notice must be given at same time as Maternity Leave.

Extension of Leave

Up to 6 months for health
