Employment at the BC Games Society Diversity and Inclusion

The BC Games Society is committed to ensuring our policies, practices, and systems are free of barriers, emphasize the value of diversity, and promote full participation to ensure dignity, respect, and equal access for all staff members. Through our processes and practices, we always work to eliminate barriers to employment for people who are usually underrepresented in Canada’s workforce. If a staff member finds any of our policies or practices to be contradictory to our Diversity and Inclusion statement, this staff member is encouraged to bring any thoughts or concerns forward to the President and CEO in person or anonymously. Our goal is for anyone who interacts with the BC Games Society regardless of race, religion, family status, gender, age, disabilities, or sexual orientation feels comfortable and welcome when working with us. In addition, the BC Games Society wants every staff member to feel involved, respected, valued, connected, and able to bring their authentic selves to the team. Recruitment and Selection Positions at the BC Games Society are evaluated based on the knowledge, skills, competencies, and behaviours required to deliver the work or service. Once the evaluation is complete, selection of staff members is based on the criteria identified so that the best-qualified candidates are chosen. The knowledge, skills, competencies, and behaviours of all applicants are verified to match those required by the work to be performed through the recruitment process. The BC Games Society is committed to following an objective, fair, timely and competitive hiring process in order to select the best candidate for the position. Applications are encouraged from current staff members and they will be screened in the same manner as applications received from outside applicants. Criminal Record Checks All staff members must submit to a Criminal Record Check prior to commencing employment with the BC Games Society, and to be renewed every two (2) years, in December of every odd calendar year. Offers of employment will be deemed conditional until such time that the employer is in receipt of a valid Criminal Record Check that meets all employment criteria standards. Renewal of Criminal Record Checks of existing staff members will be reimbursed by the BC Games Society. All information obtained through a Criminal Record Check is strictly confidential. In the event of a Criminal Record Check which comes back as “Not Clear”, the staff member will be provided with the police response and asked for written specifics surrounding the charges/convictions listed. Any further action necessary will be determined by the President and CEO.
