Board Orientation Manual 2024
The BC Games Society recognizes that some absences are unavoidable and legitimate. Staff members who are unable to report to work at the scheduled time must advise the President and CEO as soon as possible, by phone, text, or email, prior to the start time of their workday. Staff members who are not able to provide regular, consistent attendance may fail to meet the requirements for continued employment. If the staff member does not call or fails to show up to work for three (3) consecutive workdays, they will be considered to have voluntarily resigned employment with the BC Games Society. Consistent or constant absence or tardiness may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Working at Home The BC Games Society may allow or assign a staff member to work at home on a regular, semi regular, or intermittent basis at the discretion of the President and CEO. Refer to the Work at Home Polic y for more information. Staff members working from home are required to check in once daily with the President and CEO or designate using a mutually agreed to communication method such as email or text. If a staff member does not check in, the President and CEO will try to contact them to ensure that they are safe. Working from home should not affect a staff member’s ability to complete day-to-day functions, including communicating with co-workers and the President and CEO, and attending regular meetings. The staff member working from home is responsible for checking desk phone voice mail throughout the day and updating their Outlook calendars to reflect Work at Home (WAH) one (1) week prior is important for scheduling and information purposes. A Work at Home Agreement will be put in place for any staff member who has been approved to work at home. This agreement does not alter or replace the terms of an existing employment contract. Staff members must comply with all company rules, policies, practices, and instructions that would apply if the staff member were working at the regular company worksite. The BC Games Society’s permission for specific staff members or staff member groups to work from home is not an organizational obligation. This permission may be revoked by the BC Games Society. Performance Planning and Review The Performance Planning and Review process is an important, collaborative activity between all staff members, providing valuable information on the staff members’ career within the BC Games Society, and ensuring that efforts and accomplishments are recognized. The Performance Planning and Review process is designed to provide opportunities for all involved to take an in-depth look at past and current performance and to set new goals and objectives for the coming year. Upon completion of the probationary period, the President and CEO will meet with each staff person to review performance to date and confirm successful completion of probationary period. If performance has been less than satisfactory, the President and CEO will extend the probationary period and create a performance plan to monitor progress over the following three (3) months.
