Board Orientation Manual 2024
At the one-year anniversary, a Performance Planning process is instituted to set performance goals for the following year. A review meeting is scheduled midway through the year and a final review at the end of the year. This will occur annually. Performance Planning and Review also plays a role in career development; therefore, it is important that staff members participate in creating an accurate record of performance and career interests and prepare fully for performance conversations throughout the year. These performance conversations help both the BC Games Society and staff members to establish a clearer understanding of the staff member’s job duties, responsibilities, and priorities. It also provides an opportunity for any coaching to take place on how to become more proficient and productive. Disciplinary issues or performance concerns will be managed through other processes. Professional Development The BC Games Society is committed to encouraging staff members to further their knowledge and skills in areas related to their work. Learning and development opportunities will be identified during the annual performance planning process. It is important for the staff member to outline how the training will help with personal career growth and how it aligns with the organization’s values and strategic plans. Financial support for attendance at courses and seminars will be provided on the following basis: • A staff member will have been employed with the BC Games Society for at least six (6) months prior to receiving financial professional development support. • If the BC Games Society gives approval for a staff member to attend a course, time off from work will be provided to attend. • Staff members wishing to attend a workshop, event, course or any other training opportunity must complete a “ Professional Development Request Form ” outlining the details and estimated cost of the training, in advance of registering for the training opportunity. The President and CEO will review all applications and providing there are sufficient funds available and the course work is relevant to the BC Games Society may approve financial assistance in whole or in part. • The BC Games Society may require a staff member to take training that is related directly to their position. • Knowledge and course material obtained on courses paid for by the BC Games Society must be shared as appropriate. Course material becomes the property of the BC Games Society. • In the case where the staff member is taking a course which may not apply directly to existing work requirements, but could have long term BC Games Society career path implications, the BC Games Society may fund a portion of the course costs if approved in advance by the President and CEO and successfully completed. Reimbursement takes place upon proof of satisfactory course completion.
