COVID-19-Related Leave Staff members who have been asked to self-isolate by the BC Games Society, need to provide care to a dependent due to the closure of a school or care facility, or are returning from outside of Canada may be provided unpaid COVID-19-related leave for the duration that the staff member is not able to
attend work due to COVID-19 related reasons. Long Term Disability (LTD) Leave
Staff members may be eligible for Long Term Disability (LTD) Leave through the Extended Health plan. Staff members who are on LTD leave will continue to have their benefit premiums paid by the BC Games Society for the duration of the leave period. This option is available for leaves up to five (5) years in length. Jury Duty The BC Games Society recognizes and respects each staff member’s civic obligation to be available for jury service. Should a staff member receive documentation requesting that they report for jury duty: 1. The staff member must present the documentation as soon as possible to the President and CEO. 2. If the BC Games Society is able to accommodate the staff member’s absence, jury duty leave will be supported. If the staff member’s absence cannot be accommodated, the BC Games Society will request permission to seek excusal and may assist with a letter to the Courts. 3. Though not required by law, staff members will be reimbursed by the BC Games Society for the difference between the pay received for the jury duty and the staff member’s regular salary for up to four (4) weeks. The staff member may be required to furnish proof of jury duty service. 4. Once the staff member has completed jury duty, they must request a confirmation of the court appearance from the Clerk of the Court and give this document to the BC Games Society upon returning to work. 5. Upon the staff member’s return from jury duty, they will be placed in the same or comparable position they held when the jury duty leave commenced, in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act . Pregnancy and Parental Leave To support staff members who are expanding their families through childbirth and/or adoption, the BC Games Society offers a top-up benefit while on leave. Staff members must have completed three (3) years of service with the BC Games Society to be eligible for pregnancy/parental leave top-up. In order to receive the top-up, staff members must provide evidence of eligibility to receive employment insurance benefits. A staff member who is ineligible to receive employment insurance benefits is ineligible to receive a top-up.
