Food Services The Food Services Directorate provides healthy and nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for all Games participants. This includes breakfasts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, dinners on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which are provided at a centralized food services location, and lunches delivered to sport venues on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A limited number of dinners will be provided on Sunday for participants flying home from the Games. This Directorate will set menus, place food orders, secure necessary venues and equipment, and prepare and serve the meals, including delivering lunches to sport venues. The Director and Chairs will work closely with the Friends of the Games Directorate to securer food and
food service supplies and equipment to offset budget. Volunteer Management – see “Each Directorate” section. Equipment and Stores
The Equipment and Stores Chair area is responsible for the procurement, storage, distribution, and return of any kitchen/cooking/feeding/transportation equipment required by the Food Services Directorate (including forklift(s)). This Chair area also receives all food supplies and establishes a storing/warehousing process in borrowed reefers and/or rooms at the food venue. They also set-up a storage system to allow access to food and equipment as needed and manage the volunteers to needed to staff this area, including ticketed forklift operators. Food Venue The Food Venue Chair area is responsible for preparing and serving breakfasts and dinners for the Games participants at the food venue(s), where meals are served buffet-style with cafeteria seating. This Chair area helps to determine the location of the food venue in conjunction with the Director, other key Directorates, and BC Games staff and develops a site plan for the venue showing seating, food lines, flow, and preparation and storage areas. Working with other Chairs in this Directorate, this the Food Venue Chair will develop menus for breakfasts and dinners, and place the necessary food orders. The food venue will utilize a large number of volunteers, requiring this Chair area to develop volunteer job descriptions (set-up, bus person, chef, food prep, etc.), schedule volunteers, as well as plan for, and conduct training. Volunteers in this area may be required to complete a FoodSafe Program to ensure adequate health requirements are met. Off-Site Meals The Off-Site Meals Chair area is responsible for the preparation and service of all meals not served at the food venue(s). This includes lunches (which are delivered to the sport venues or accommodation sites on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and may also include meals served at the Participant Accreditation Centre upon arrival at the Games and serving dinner on Thursday at, or close to, the Opening Ceremony location. For lunches this includes arranging a grab-and-go area for participants to pick-up their non-perishable lunch items (fruit, snacks, juice, etc.) as they leave breakfast and also assembling the required quantities of perishable menu items into totes by sport and zone and delivering these to the designated venues for the scheduled mealtimes. Early morning shifts are necessary to ensure all lunches are prepared and delivered on time to each venue. Sandwiches are prepared in assembly line fashion and packed for delivery. Volunteers in this area may be required to complete a FoodSafe Program to ensure adequate health requirements are met. Volunteers with trucks, vans, or large cars are used to distribute lunches according to a predetermined schedule.
