Venue Management The purpose of this Chair area is to ensure that all sport facilities are upgraded and/or prepared to the level of competition at the Games. This will include reserving the use of identified sport facilities for competition purposes, monitoring the progress of sport facility preparations by the respective owners (School District, City/Municipal, private) and ensuring all sport facilities are returned to their pre-Games condition after the Games, where needed. This Chair also manages agreements with private facilities, ensuring obligations by all parties are met and he/she serves as the main contact between the local School District and City/Municipal staff and the Games (the Sport Directorate and all Games Directorates). In addition, works with the Logistics Directorate to ensure the fit out of each venue is done and that the needs of the sports are addressed, including reporting back to the sports on the status of the preparations for their venue/competition. This Chair area also communicates the water plan for potable water access at sport venues developed by the Logistics Directorate to all sports and ensure the Operations Manager is aware of all sport venue plans for inclusion on the venue maps. This Chair area will secure, schedule, and train a team of Venue Managers to oversee maintenance, access, and other issues that may arise at the sport venues It is recommended that City/Municipal Parks and Recreation appoint someone as a liaison to this Directorate. The role of this liaison is to assist with ensuring the sport venues are ready for the Games competitions. This individual will play a key role in ensuring the City/Municipal Parks and Recreation is aware of the planning for the Games and being prepared for their role to support the Games preparations and operations. Sport Chairs There is one Sport Chair for every sport in your BC Games. This local individual is appointed by their Provincial Sport Organization, through the BC Games Society. Sport Chairs are not considered Chairs within the Sport Directorate but are managed by this Directorate. They are responsible for recruiting a team of volunteers to run a successful sport competition. Volunteers will be required to prepare playing surfaces, score keep, officiate, time keep, clean up, forward results, and a myriad of other duties.
