OBJECTIVES
OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Through partnerships, the BC Games Society is committed to providing event management leadership in the creation of development opportunities for individuals, sport organizations, host societies, and communities hosting the Games. The purpose of the BC Games Society is to provide an opportunity for the development of athletes, coaches, and officials in preparation for higher levels of competition in a multi-sport event that promotes interest and participation in sport and sporting activities, individual achievement, and community development. Understanding their legal authority and responsibilities regarding risk management. Reviewing and approving financial administrative policies and procedures as documented in the Society's Financial Administration Manual. Reviewing and approving the Society's annual budget. Reviewing and approving financial reports, which includes Powering Potential Fund reports and Acting as signatories on the Society’s bank account(s). Two members of the Board must be designated as signatories. Generally, these would be the Board Chair and the Chair of the Finance Committee. If either or both are not available, able, or willing to serve in this capacity, the Board will designate alternate Board members. Annually, evaluating the performance and setting the remuneration of the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Providing advice and support to the Society's staff. Approving major communications to the general public. Ensuring compliance with the Society’s Constitution, the current Government Funding Agreement (GFA), and with reporting requirements of the Societies Act of BC. Appointing external accountants and independent auditors. STAFF FUNCTIONS In order to achieve the overall objectives, the Society staff is responsible for the following main functions: Ensuring policies approved by the Society’s Board of Directors are adhered to. Working with, and motivating, host society staff and volunteers and sport organizations, in planning, organizing, conducting, and accounting for the hosting of a multi-sport Games event, within the policies of the Society and within the budget allotted for the Games. Providing information to and attending meetings of the Board of Directors and its the use of Powering Potential Fund funds, at least three times per year. Exercising signing authority as defined by the Signing Authorities Matrix. BOARD FUNCTIONS The Board of Directors is responsible for the following functions:
