Public Relations The purpose of the Public Relations Chair area is to promote awareness in the local community about the Games. The development of a public relations plan will serve as guide in raising awareness both pre-Games and on the Games weekend. Pre-Games promotion will focus on the Games in general, volunteer recruitment, and specific events (including Community Awareness Event (approx. 6-7 months prior to Games), Torchlighting Ceremony (approx. 100 days prior to the Games), and showcasing local volunteers, sports, sponsors, and venues via the local media and a Games Newsletters/Communications distributed to volunteers and the community. Games-time promotion will include highlighting the Opening Ceremony and the sport competitions and encouraging the public to attend as well as getting stories out to the media. This includes recruiting Games-time news service reporters who prepare sport-specific stories for distribution to the media throughout the province. A Media Centre during the Games is set up and managed by this Chair area and serves as a hub for the Marketing Directorate.
